Cataract Surgery
Personalised Cataract Assessment and Surgery
A cataract develops when the natural lens inside the eye becomes cloudy. Cataracts commonly develop with age and can cause blurred or hazy vision, glare, difficulty driving at night, changes in colour perception or a frequent need to change glasses.
Miss Shalaka Sobti provides consultant-led cataract care from initial assessment through to surgery and postoperative follow-up, with treatment tailored to each patient’s individual vision and lifestyle.
Your Cataract Consultation
The first step is to understand how much the cataract is affecting your vision and everyday activities.
Your consultation includes a detailed eye assessment and a discussion about the difficulties you are experiencing. Miss Sobti will explain whether cataract surgery is appropriate and answer any questions you may have about treatment.
If surgery is recommended, measurements are taken to help select the appropriate intraocular lens (IOL) to replace the cloudy natural lens.
Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery involves removing the cloudy natural lens from the eye and replacing it with a clear artificial lens.
It is one of the most commonly performed eye operations and is usually carried out as a day-case procedure under local anaesthetic.
Miss Sobti will talk you through the procedure beforehand, including what to expect on the day, the potential benefits and risks of surgery, and the recovery afterwards.
Choosing the Right Lens
The choice of lens implant is an important part of planning cataract surgery. Your eyes, glasses prescription, visual priorities and lifestyle all help determine which option is most appropriate.
Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, Miss Sobti discusses the available options with you and helps establish a treatment plan suited to your individual needs and expectations.
After your Operation
You will be given clear instructions about eye drops, activities and what to expect during recovery. Follow-up allows the eye to be checked as it heals and gives you an opportunity to discuss any concerns.
The emphasis throughout is on careful planning, clear communication and personalised consultant-led care.
